I recently purchased a used 1998 Toyota RAV4, and there is a steering fluid leak. I am not sure precisely from where it is coming from. Before I take it to a mechanic, what is the approximate cost to fix? Are there any other areas that I should be concerned about and have checked given the age of the vehicle? It only has 215,000 Kms, and I really enjoy driving it.

Answer

The leak could be coming from a lot of different sources, so it would be very difficult to give you an estimate. If the steering rack is leaking, then the cost would probably be as followed: $600-$1200, pump $200- $400, line $100- $300.
