I think you mean the Schrader valve. This is similar to a tire air valve. You can actually use this valve to measure fuel pressure in the system. I think that's what's going on. If fuel doesn't squirt out of this valve when pressed, there's no fuel pressure in the line. The problem could be a clogged fuel filter, a leak in the fuel line (less likely), a bad fuel pressure regulator, a faulty fuel pump, or a problem in the pump's electrical circuit.

If you need to test the pump's electrical circuit, you may need the diagram for your specific model. You can find it in the vehicle repair manual. Most auto parts stores carry an aftermarket copy. Check the fuel pump relay. This is the most common problem when dealing with a pump that doesn't want to run.
