1. The Kit Car Manual
This is a nice little book on kit cars with updated examples of new designs and developments that have become available over the last few years.
The appendix includes the addresses of manufacturers and clubs around the world which is informative and valuable in your own kit car building adventures.
It is written in an easy-to-read and often humorous style that will take your mind off the frustrations of your own build and give you the inspiration to get back in the garage.
2. How to Use Composites in Kit Car Building
These three books on composite materials are among the best rated by fiberglass kit car builders. If you are building your own kit cars, you'll need to learn all you can about composites, from the safe use of materials to the best resin and fiber system including the different types of both resin and fiber.
The book has valuable info on fiberglass, carbon fiber, core materials and resins, plus recent advances in both materials and technologies.
This series starts off pretty basic so you can learn the ropes, then as the series progresses you'll get into advanced techniques you can apply to your kit car project.
Composite Materials Series Overview
- The first book is a great intro to working with composites safely, laying out the tools and materials you'll need all in high-quality full color with plenty of detailed photos. This book walks you through four projects the final being a moldless lamination of a hood scoop, a perfect project to get you started on building that kit car. Includes a very helpful section on where to buy composites and resins for your project.
- The second book in the series gives you a more in-depth explanation of working with composites starting with basic mold making. More advanced techniques are demonstrated as well including vacuum-bagging, inflatable bladder molding, trapped-rubber insert molding, or resin transfer molding
- Book three really gets into the fun stuff with advanced mold making including using computer modeling software and silicone compression molds for complex shapes. You'll also learn how to do composite repairs a valuable tool when owning your own fiberglass kit car. The projects in this book include creating a body panel formed using an existing panel to make the mold. (along with a cool project on making a hollow body guitar off topic but still super cool).

Questions & Answers
Question: I'm looking for just the bodies so I can make my own car, do you have just bodies or could you point me in the right direction?
Answer: We are not a body manufacturer ourselves. Depending on what type of fiberglass body you are looking for your best bet is probably to keep an eye on eBay or perhaps local listing sites like craigslist. There also might be specialized kit car manufacturers for the specific body type you are looking for. Searching for something like "Porsche kit car body near me" would help bring up local results.
