Fastest Cars in the World: Top 10

Savio is a resident of Mumbai, India. Cars, bikes, and everything fast are his passion, and he writes about them on many sites.

The fastest cars are getting faster and are toppling each other out of the top spot almost every two years. These are the top ten cars as of now, since I keep updating them. Let’s have a look at them.

1. Bugatti Chiron [1600 hp]

ten-worlds-fastest-cars

Bugatti, Koenigsegg and Hennessey were trading the top spot faster than ever, and here we have one more topper – the Bugatti Chiron. The Chiron did a top speed of 304 mph and is the first car to break the 300 mph barrier. While most of the world was expecting the Hennessey to break the barrier first, Bugatti stole the thunder. So, history will kindly remember the Bugatti for shattering the 300 mph barrier.

  • Top Speed: 304.77 mph (490.68 km/hr)
  • Acceleration: 0-60 in 2.1 sec [Claimed]
  • Engine: 8.0 L Quad Turbocharged W16
  • Price: $2.8 million

Here's the Record Run:

2. Koenigsegg Agera RS

ten-worlds-fastest-cars

Koenigsegg pulled a Houdini on Bugatti Veyron. Just when Bugatti was transitioning to the Chiron and was expecting the Hennessey to challenge it to the top spot, Koenigsegg came from nowhere and took the lead. It's not over yet though, Bugatti plans to get the Chiron to do the fastest run soon, while Hennessey has introduced the Venom F5. They are kind of confident of doing a 300 mph run. That means one more shuffle of the top spot expected soon. Or maybe, many more shuffles in the near future.

Till such time here are the stats of the topper:

  • Top Speed: 277.9 mph (447.42 km/hr)
  • Acceleration: 0-60 in 2.1 sec
  • Engine: V8 5.0 litres engine with 1160 hp
  • Price: $1.7 million

You can read more about the Agera RS here.

3. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

  • Top Speed: 267 mph (429.87 km/hr)
  • Acceleration: 0-60 in 2.4 sec
  • Engine: W16 Engine with 1200 hp
  • Price: $2.4 million

Bugatti Veyron was crowned the fastest car, ending the reign of McLaren FI. This change, however, lasted for a brief period, when SSC Ultimate Aero was adjudged the fastest car in 2007. Bugatti went back to the drawing board and came back with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which took the lead once again and remained at the top for nearly a decade. The Agera RS then toppled the Bugatti.

We know for sure that the Veyron is not going to be coming back, so this is the last of it. Veyron's successor, the Chiron, has to now fight for the top spot. Let's see if that happens.

The next car is the Hennessey Venom GT, the fastest accelerating car to 300 kmph in the world.

4. Hennessey Venom GT

ten-worlds-fastest-cars
  • Top Speed: 270.49 mph (435.49 km/hr) (Not a record)
  • Acceleration: 0-60 in 2.5 sec
  • Engine: Twin Turbo V8 engine with 1200 hp
  • Price: $ 950,0000

Before the Agera RS, the Venom was the fastest driven car in the world, yet it remained behind the Bugatti Veyron. The record books accept a two way run within an hour for a car to establish the top speed. However, the Venom just did one way. NASA did not permit them to do the second run and that sealed the fate of Hennessey; at least for now. So, despite being the fastest run car, it still is second to the Bugatti and third in the overall list.

Will this change in the future? Yes, may be with the Hennessey Venom F5 but the GT will take to the history books at this spot.

Next one year would be the most exciting battle between Hennessey, Bugatti and Koenigsegg for the top spot!! Exciting for sure!

5. Bugatti Chiron [1500 hp]

ten-worlds-fastest-cars

This is the newest entrant. Though a speed run has not been done to test the top speed of the car, a 0 – 400 – 0 kmph test run did happen. So that confirms that the car can do 249 mph for sure. Also, it is claimed that the Chiron is speed limited at 261 mph so that we will assume as the top speed for now.

· Top Speed: 261 mph (420.21 kmph)

· Engine: 8-liter quad-turbocharged W16

· Power: 1479 hp

· Acceleration: 0 – 60 mph in 2.4 sec

Wait, so is the new Bugatti not going to attempt a speed record? Well, as it turns out the vehicle’s speedo reads up to 500 kmph or 310 mph but there is simply no production car tires available which can withstand the physics of such a run. So, the speed attempt may happen or may not. There is another school of thought which says that Chiron may be a bit cautious about the speed run considering the Agera RS bettered its 0-400-0 kmph record in no time. Maybe, the car just can’t beat the Agera RS’ current record of 477 mph. Who knows?

But here’s the thing – the Chiron is selling well. They have already sold 340 cars and the waiting list extends to three years. It’s already popular, so what exactly remains to be proved, anyway? Speed run or no speed run!

6. Koenigsegg Agera R

ten-worlds-fastest-cars
  • Top Speed: 260 mph (418.6 km/hr)
  • Acceleration: 0-60 in 2.9 sec
  • Engine: Twin Turbo V8 engine with 1099 hp
  • Price: $ 1.6 million

Based on the top speed, the next spot belongs to two cars. As a tie breaker, when we look at the acceleration in conjunction with the top speed, the Ultimate Aero takes the spot.

7. SSC Ultimate Aero

ten-worlds-fastest-cars
  • Top Speed: 257 mph (413.77 km/hr)
  • Acceleration: 0-60 in 2.7 sec
  • Engine: Twin Turbo V8 engine with 1183 hp
  • Price: $ 655,000

The Ultimate Aero dominated the number one spot between 2007 and 2010 until the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport toppled it. Now, even the Koenigsegg and the Hennessey Venom GT have gone faster. If reports are to be believed then SSC may soon attempt the number one spot with the SSC Tuatura. What a match that would be!!

The McLaren F1 was the world’s fastest car till the beginning of this century. It is one of the few cars to have a gold coated engine. Once the fastest car, the McLaren F1 now finds its place way down the list.
