The Monaco GP was the first race after Ayrton Senna's tragic loss. Schumacher appeared unstoppable as there was not a single World Champ on track. Prost had retired in 1993, Nigel Mansell left F1 in 1992 and the world lost Ayrton in 1994.

This was the victory which brought Michael and Fernando neck and neck on points. For those that followed the rest of the two races - Michael was leading in Japan when his engine gave way and had a tough race in Brazil.

The victories were mammoth in proportion to what other drivers of the same era and before had achieved. It took nearly one-and-a-half-decade for anyone to close in on that record.
