I am a teacher, a mother, wife and adventure-lover. Biking, running, cooking and knitting are some of my favourite things to do.

Why Trunk Bike Racks Are the Best Choice

  • Less expensive than other bike racks
  • Portable
  • Easy to load and access bikes
  • Can be used on multiple vehicles
  • Great for occasional use

Car Bike Racks: Something That Will Last

So, you've got your dream bike(s) and now you need a way to safely and carefully transport your new babies . . . I mean bikes to your favourite trails. There's no way you'll ever let anything happen to your precious bikes and you need a bike rack that will stand the test of time—a rack that will last perhaps even longer than your current bike(s) will last and hold your future dream bikes as well.

Car bike racks come in all shapes and sizes and the quality of materials vary from brand to brand. Some of the top rated rack brands are Thule bike racks, Yakima racks, Allen and Saris. A typical, high quality trunk bike rack is lightweight and they fasten to the rear car deck with straps and paint-friendly hooks. Bikes rest on support arms and are fastened and secured by straps usually made of neoprene rubber.

The first thing you'll want to do when deciding what kind of bike rack you need is to figure out what type of rack you need for your vehicle.

  • Roof racks-versitile and stable; accommodates a variety of sports equipment
  • Trunk racks-less expensive; portable; easy to load bikes; good for occasional use
  • Hitch racks-simple to install; carry skis/boards; easy to load bikes; good for frequent use
  • Spare tire racks-easy to load and access bikes; carry skis/boards; can access the rear
  • Truck racks-easy to access and load; can handle heavy loads; can attach to tool boxes
  • Cargo boxes-enclosed; lockable gear storage; can carry skis/boards/gear

We're focussing today on trunk bike racks, as they are inexpensive, reliable and easy to use. In no particular order, here are the 10 best trunk bike racks.

This is a good list however, trunk mounts are great but sometimes difficult to manage, especially of you drive an SUV and would like to retain access to the rear door of your car. Check out the article below for a good pros and cons view on the 4 primary mount types - roof, trunk, hitch and spare tyre - especially as it relates to SUVs. https://www.bikersrights.com/
