2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Review

With a satirical edge and undertones of technology, gadgets and accessories, I aim to make my writing both informative and entertaining.

Overview

When pitted against the Audi A4, BMW 3-series, and Genesis G70 in a competition for supremacy, the C-modernization class gives the vehicle an advantage. The design and technologies of the S-class sedan have been carried over to the C-class, which has resulted in the C-class having a more contemporary cabin.

The new C-class for 2022 will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and will come standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive will be an optional option.

The architecture of the previous model will remain the same. The confident handling of this vehicle makes it a pleasure to drive on winding roads, but we found the ride to be harsh on broken pavement, and the steering to be less communicative than it ought to have been for a performance sedan.

Despite these issues, driving this vehicle is a delight. The C-class follows in the lineage of the style and substance of the flagship S-class sedan, but it does so in a smaller and more affordable packaging. The only real downside of the C-class is that its dynamics are lacking.

What Should We Expect from 2022 Model?

To summarize: each and every thing. Even while the style of the new C-class isn't a huge divergence from the model that was available in 2021, the model year 2022 will signal the beginning of a new generation that will have more luxury and a greater variety of high-tech amenities.

Transmission, Engine, and Performance

All 2022 C-class vehicles are powered by the same 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and have the C300 designation on their trunklids. The turbo four is augmented by a 48-volt hybrid system that can produce up to 20 more horsepower briefly. All-wheel drive remains an option, while rear-wheel drive is standard; a nine-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission available.

In our tests, the C300 4Matic with all-wheel drive reached 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the previous generation C-class. As expected of a tiny sports sedan, the handling is lively, but we were surprised by the lack of steering feel and the harsh ride quality. The C300 halted from 70 miles per hour in just 154 feet thanks to its strong braking performance, but we'd prefer a harder pedal feel.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

On the 2022 C-class, Mercedes-Benz provides not a la carte choices as it did on the C-class of the previous generation, but rather three separate trim levels: Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle. The a la carte options are still available.

Because it comes standard with luxuries like a 360-degree exterior camera system, a self-parking capability, wireless smartphone charging, and a Burmester premium music system, we believe the mid-range Exclusive trim level will appeal to the greatest number of customers.

At launch, only the sedan version of the C-class will be available for purchase; however, we anticipate that Mercedes will continue to sell the C-class in coupe and convertible body types in the future.

A huge touchscreen display, a digital gauge display, heated front seats, automatic high-beam headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a sunroof, and a great deal more come standard on every model. The all-wheel drive system known as 4Matic from Mercedes-Benz is an option; nevertheless, we will let you decide for yourself whether or not you require it.

Cargo, Comfort, and Interior

The most significant modification to the C-class is its new high-tech interior. All models include a digital gauge display, touch-sensitive controls, and a variety of additional features. The new model's steering wheel resembles that of the S-class sedan, and standard luxury features include heated front seats with memory settings, a sunroof, wood trim with open pores, and aluminum accents.

The C-class is approximately 2.5 inches longer than its predecessor, and its wheelbase has been lengthened by one inch. Mercedes-Benz claims that this increases rear-seat legroom, but the difference is minor in practice.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

The Mercedes C-class comes standard with a plethora of driver assistance features, but unfortunately, the vehicle's most cutting-edge technology, which includes an adaptive cruise control system that makes use of navigation data to adjust the vehicle's speed for upcoming curves and roundabouts, is still an optional extra.

Mercedes equips the C-class with a host of standard driver assistance features. Visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for additional details regarding the outcomes of the crash tests performed on the C-class.

Energy Efficiency and Real-World MPG

The EPA estimates that C-class models with rear-wheel drive should achieve up to 25 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the interstate; adding all-wheel drive reduces these estimates by 2 mpg to 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the motorway.

In our highway fuel economy test at 75 mph, the all-wheel drive C300 4Matic exceeded its highway rating with a result of 35 mpg. Visit the EPA's website for for details on the C-fuel class's efficiency. Energy Efficiency and Real-World MPG.

Connectivity and Infotainment

A big multimedia display measuring 12.3 inches and oriented vertically, similar to the one found in the revised S-class sedan, sweeps up from the center console in the direction of a trio of circular air vents located on the upper dashboard.

The touchscreen is angled slightly toward the driver to make it easier to use while driving, and it is equipped with the most recent version of Mercedes' MBUX infotainment system.

This system comes complete with a voice-activated digital assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and online access via a Wi-Fi hotspot. Additionally, a fingerprint sensor and a digital gauge display measuring 11.9 inches are standard on every model.

This allows the driver's individual profile to be verified and stored in the vehicle's memory. The head-up display, a wireless charging station for smartphones, an ambient lighting system, and a Burmester surround sound stereo system are all extras that can be purchased as options.
