'97 Toyota Avalon (1MZ-FE V6) Timing Belt, Water Pump & Seals Replacement
This article, via video, will demonstrate how to replace the timing belt, water pump, camshaft and crankshaft seals on a 97' Toyota Avalon. The 1MZ-FE engine was also used on other Toyota and Lexus vehicles during the years of 1992' through 2003.
This Avalon had 170,000 miles and the customer was complaining of excessive oil leaking down behind his right front wheel. Since his power steering reservoir was not low, and oil was present below the lower timing belt cover, I concluded that either one or both camshaft seals were worn out.
The kit I bought and used consisted of a Mitsubishi timing belt, Aisin water pump, Koyo and GMB bearings, and new camshaft and crankshaft seals. These parts brands are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts providers for Japanese auto manufacturers.
