How to Remove and Disassemble the Honda Harmony 215 Transmission

I have the solution to the transmission problem on your Honda Harmony 215 lawnmower. If the transmission is slipping, skipping, or feels like it's popping out of gear, I can help you fix that. If your wheels spin while you suspend the rear wheel off the ground but stop spinning once they hit the ground, I can show you how to fix that too.

I fixed my problem by swapping the trans gear shift lever with the drive lever and adding shims as needed to both assemblies, and the pictures and captions below show how I did it.

I believe this is the best information you can find on these problems, I have spent weeks trying to figure this out.

Part 1: How to Remove the Transmission on the Honda Harmony 215

Remove the snap ring on the inside of the wheel adjusters under the mower deck on the Honda Harmony 215 , you may need a set of 90deg snap ring pliers.

Remove the shift cable on the Honda Harmony 215, it's a10 mm nut. You need to either remove the shift cable from the hand lever or put the transmission in 1st gear to give the cable slack.

I kept this transmission drive cable in place on the Honda Harmony 215 and removed it from the wheel engage hand lever. I didn't want to ruin the press clip.

Remove the rubber grommet from the mower deck on the Honda Harmony 215 and keep the cable assembly together.

This spring will give you the most trouble, you have to grab the metal bracket that is mounted to the transmission with a large pair of channel lock pliers and twist the transmission to remove the drive belt.

Part 2. The View Inside the Transmission of the Honda Harmony 215

View inside the Honda Harmony 215 transmission with no grease. It is very well constructed and I found very little wear after 16 years of use.

These are the levers that are mounted to the shift forks. As you can see they are pretty beat up, the lower one especially, that is the lever which engages the wheels.

This is the shim I made out of a very thin stainless steel washer. I had to clean it up even more in order to  fit it between the lever and shift fork.

I just used high temp all purpose grease inside the trans.

There is no gasket for the case, so you have to use something comparable to Honda bond or Yama bond.
